Bird-Call Holder

Created as an donated auction piece to benefit rescue dogs, this "call holder" was designed as a complete wall sculpture. Starting with a pencil sketch, a vector version of the art was made for use with a laser engraver. Once was the piece was engraved, the overall shape was cut out and weathered. Dark stain was applied within the engraved areas and a lighter stain was applied to the remaining surfaces. All surfaces received a protective coat. Four oil-rubbed bronze knobs were added to hang the calls. A bag of new duck and goose leg bands was purchased. All bands were submerged in vinegar to strip the protective coating. Each band was individually weathered using many different techniques to create uniqueness and a history. The bands were attached to lanyards fashioned from paracord and springs and five antique calls were connected to complete the piece.
